Christopher learning his colors and numbers
My 4 school-aged children!
In our house we begin formal school (preschool) at the age of 1. Even Christopher can do school with us now by learning his colors, numbers, shapes, animal names with their sounds along with other new words. We use color blocks and flashcards to teach these things along with everyday experiences. Sophia, although she can count to 100 in order, is learning to recognize numbers out of order and write her numbers 0-20 (she can already write her ABC's). She is also getting better and better at reading. She's reading books such as "Dick and Jane". Libby is currently doing 1st grade Math and Anna 2nd. Libby is reading books such as "Frog and Toad are Friends". Anna is learning cursive and reading chapter books such as "Little House on the Prairie". I do the same History and Science curriculum for everyone. We are currently memorizing the book of Philippians for Bible. Emma usually naps or plays with toys in the reading area while we have our school time. This structured learning time is a great exercise in character for all of us : )
I'm so thankful for the freedoms in our country that allow me this opportunity. I don't want to miss a single day of answering questions, reading stories together, or seeing the light bulb turn on in their minds as a new concept dawns on them....I am so blessed to be home with my little ones! They are also blessed to constantly be in a safe and loving environment. They can pray, learn the 10 Commandments and memorize scripture...all during school hours too!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and do not forsake your mother's teaching; indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head, and ornaments about your neck.
Proverbs 1:7-9
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:2-3
