Easy Homemade Toothpaste!

Okay, so being a large family, we buy a lot of toothpaste : )  We try our best to save money and use what we already have around the house when we can so we tried making our own and are very pleased with the result!  We started with this recipe and tailored it to our liking.  I made Chad and I's much more minty and sweeter than the original recipe and the children's even sweeter than ours (without sugar of course or else that would defeat the purpose lol).  We pretty much like ours tasting like a candy cane, but tailor it according to the way you like it if you decide to try : )  This paste is much more gentle on your gums and enamel but gets your teeth just as clean and leaves your mouth feeling really fresh.  I had fun making this with my girls.  I hope you enjoy!

For Adults:

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
3-4 Tbsp. Baking Soda (start with 3 and use more if needed to reach desired consistency)
2-3 packets of Stevia or Xylitol (or approx. 1 tsp. to taste)
20-30 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil or any flavor you like

For Children:

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
3-4 Tbsp. Baking Soda (start with 3 and use more to reach desired consistency)
10-15 packets or close to 2 tsp. Stevia or Xylitol (to your children's taste)
10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil or another flavor they like (to taste)
1 drop of food coloring (optional)

Directions:
Mix ingredients with spoon into a paste in a small container (this recipe makes about a 1/2 cup).  Store sealed with a lid.  Dip your toothbrush into the paste and use just as you normally would with store bought toothpaste.  Some of the oil might separate (I've found only if you don't add enough baking soda) so you may need to give it a little stir before using.

*For whitening toothpaste, use same recipe as above but dip your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide first before putting paste on your toothbrush.
*Be creative in how you store and please share with me what you come up with!
